Notes from the Board

We’ve been spending the last few months working out the details for the remainder of this year. It’s been a real treat to shape Ames C.art’s second year in action.

Help us make the rest of the year a smashing success and join us at events, volunteer your time to help keep things rolling, and most of all, live life creatively!

Moving to Facebook

While we’ve loved our stay on Meetup.com, we have decided not to renew our membership and move to Facebook. Become an Ames C.art fan on Facebook to get all the news, updates, and event details you would normally find on meetup.com. Why are we moving? Easy, we want to keep our events really affordable, so we are trimming our budget everywhere we can to focus on what’s really important: making stuff with all of you fine folks!

Creative Collision

beadswap-lowres05 Creative Collision, our monthly meet up,
has begun moving around town, shining a spotlight on some of the great locations Ames has to offer. Not only are these great spots for crafting, but they are wonderful places to hang out, meet new
people, and our monthly Creative Collision gives you the opportunity to visit places you may not have known about or experience them in a new way.

February’s Creative Collision was held at Wheatsfield Cooperative, a local grocery store where you can become a member by buying a share of the co-op.

March 9th, 2011: Creative Collision at the Library! We will meet at the Founder’s Suite in the Ames Public Library at 7pm. Final collection for the Emergency Residence Program at this meeting!

We are also mobilizing our creative community to Make for Charity by focusing all our handmade efforts towards a local charity. January and February we made hats and scarves for Emergency Residence Project clients (read more here) and March will be spent making snuggles for the Boone Animal Shelter (info coming soon on AmesCart.org).

Annual Ames C.art Community Art Project: ArtVend!

It’s almost time for the next annual project! Ames C.art painted a great mural in Campustown in 2010, and this year we are working on a creative new way to connect our community – The ArtVend Machine!
The project details are still being worked on, and you can read about our progress on the website. The machine will be filled by local artists and moved around town, giving everyone the opportunity to own a piece of local art. Be on the lookout for more information on how you can help make the project come to life!

Get Involved: We need an eNews Coordinator!

Want to help Ames C.art grow and thrive? We are currently searching for an eNews Coordinator. The eNews Coordinator would be our
chief wrangler for getting the newsletter out monthly. As the eNews Coordinator, you would be in charge of assigning monthly articles
to appropriate Ames C.art members, adding new list members to the database, selecting photos for the publication, and approving copy
edits. HTML skills would be a plus, but are not required. Familiarity with Google Docs and Flickr are necessary, but training is available.
If you are interested in being the eNews Coordinator, fill out the volunteer application and send it to volunteer@amescart.org along with your resume.

Friday was a great night to get out and see some of Ames’ up and coming musicians. Rock the Block is put together by Rieman Music and gives great exposure and experience to many great young artists. From full out metal bands to acoustic melodies, this show had a little something for everyone.

It was a night full of music. You may have enjoyed some live tunes at the Ames Progressive or DG’s Tap House. Earlier in the day there were Bookends at the Bandshell and then Ames on the Halfshell. What is your favorite Ames Venue for Live Music? What show did you end up at?

A mending workshop at the Ames Progressive office. It was a lot of fun and everyone brought something to work on.

Seems like the pockets are always getting torn off Jason’s jeans. Extensive mending and patching was executed.

See the darned spot? nope, me neither! And that’s the point. 3 pairs of socks now ready for feet!

usually it’s the dog carrying around the toy that looks like a cat, well, in this case it’s sarah’s cat that carries around a little dog – a proceeds to claw it’s guts out. Favorite cat toy now ready to be re-gutted all over again!

I brought a whole slew of books to look through and browse and chat about. zines brought back from San Francisco, collected over the years, and newly acquired.

Ames c.art fliers at the ames progressive. You can download fliers to print out and distribute here. More fliers coming soon! I just printed these off on graph paper, cut them down a bit, and then fixed them to 1/4 page pieces of card stock to hand out – print on anything you want and give them to friends – make them your own by jazzing them up, or get them out there on some white printer paper – main thing is to just have fun, spread the word, and help make ames c.art a success. Thank you for spreading the word!
